Most Americans think 'family planning' means a husband and wife deciding what type of birth control to use, in the context of marriage and home. Yet with international 'family planning,' nothing could be further from the truth.
Your tax dollars are funding surgical abortions, distribution of abortifacient contraceptives, fertility experiments on women, mass distribution of condoms to youth and unmarried individuals, and Planned Parenthood's sex education model.
Consider two of the organizations that receive a significant portion of their revenue from government grants and contracts: zero population growth, whose mission is to slow population growth and achieve a sustainable balance of people, resources, and the environment and population action international whose mission is to promote stabilization of the world's population at a level balance with the earth's finite natural resources. No question here that the goal is population control!
A 1995 BBC documentary titled 'The Human Laboratory' revealed the fact that money from the U.S. agency for international development had been used, through local contractors, to do fertility experiments on poor women in the slums of Bangladesh and Haiti. These women received Norplant, but were not told Norplant was experimental or that they were a part of a fertility drug trial. So called 'family planners' refused to remove the Norplant when many of these women experienced severe headaches, bleeding, and even blindness.
At two United Nations conferences, CWA delegates heard testimony from Dr. Margaret Ogola of Kenya who testified that she cannot get the penicillin she needs to treat dying children, but more expensive IUD's are readily available. She described how 'family planners' have put so many condoms into Kenya that the children use them as balloons for play.
These are just two of literally hundreds of examples of how your taxpayer money is being used to hurt women and children. There are many private foundations, both in the U.S. and abroad that would continue to privately fund population control programs. We don't need to use federal tax dollars.
Representative Ron Paul of Texas has offered an important amendment to the Foriegn Operations Appropriations bill that will limit funding for all population control activities overseas. Concerned Women for America wholeheartedly supports this amendment, and we consider this to be a very important pro-life vote.
Please let your congressman know where you stand on this very critical issue that affects women and children around the world. Tell your congressman that a vote for the Paul Amendment is a vote for life!
