Sen. Kennedy: A Few Words on “Words”     9/3/2009
By Ken Ervin

E-mail is a wonderful thing. With it you can keep in touch with friends around the globe. Truly, they’re only a click away. But, at times, e-mail can be a bit of a bother and a bore. Take for example the following rant we received from a left-leaning e-mailer to Concerned Women for America:

“The defilement heaped on Senator Ted Kennedy immediately following his death, by conservatives, is a black mark on history that will stand for generations to come. ... When that standard-bearer of conservatism Jesse Helms died, no one of any stripe stooped to denigrate the man in death” (emphasis ours).

Hmmmm. We beg to differ. Tim Graham, Director of Media Analysis at the Media Research Center, speaks to this issue, gently reminding us of the utter contempt and mean-spiritedness heaped upon Sen. Helms by the left after his death. Graham even includes a short list of endearing headlines that ran at the time, such as, “See You In Hell: Jesse Helms Finally Dead,” “Jesse Helms, American Garbage,” and “Jesse Helms Is Finally Dead. Let’s Have a Cookout.” Classy, eh?

So, if you hear the line from your liberal friends that no one on the left stooped to denigrate Sen. Helms following his death, just remember, technically they’re right — leftists didn’t “stoop,” they rushed.
