Domestic Partnership Legislation Demeans Marriage and Undermines Federal Law 10/14/2009 Washington, D.C. — Today the Senate will hold a hearing on special federal privileges for “same-sex partners.” The Domestic Partnership Benefits and Obligations Act of 2009 allows any federal employee who claims a “same-sex domestic partner” to be entitled to the same employment benefits that are currently available only to married federal employees and their spouses.
Wendy Wright, President of Concerned Women for America, said, “Federal law defines marriage is the union between a man and a woman. This bill would contradict the law by elevating relationships outside of marriage to that of a legal marriage. Marriage between one man and one woman provides unique benefits to individuals, children, and society that cannot be replicated by any other living arrangement. The Domestic Partnership Benefits and Obligations Act demeans the importance of marriage and is wholly inappropriate because it undermines federal law.”
