Janet M. LaRue is CWA's Chief Counsel and Legal Studies Director.

Janet M. LaRue is Chief Counsel for Concerned Women for America and directs its Legal Studies Department. She shapes legal policy for CWA, analyzing, commenting, and writing about court activity and the ramifications of legal decisions for American families. She writes CWA papers, newsletter articles, opinion pieces for print media and amicus curiae briefs, and communicates CWA’s position on legal issues to legislators, policymakers and members of the media.

Legal Advocate
From 1998-2002, she served as Senior Director of Legal Studies for the Family Research Council. From 1992-1998, Mrs. LaRue was Senior Counsel for the National Law Center for Children and Families in the California office, focusing entirely on pornography law. Prior to that, she was Special Counsel with the Western Center for Law and Religious Freedom. She has also practiced criminal and juvenile law. She graduated summa cum laude from Trinity International University School of Law, and is a member of the California Bar.

Pornography Law Expert
Mrs. LaRue has testified before Congress and numerous state and local legislatures regarding pornography, sexually oriented businesses, and child safety bills. She was instrumental in the passage of a California statute prohibiting distribution of pornography in unattended public news racks accessible to minors, and helped to successfully defend the statute with amicus curiae briefs in the Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and in the U.S. Supreme Court. She has authored several amicus curiae briefs in the U.S. Supreme Court and federal and state appellate courts on numerous constitutional issues. She has assisted legislators and law enforcement agencies to regulate sexually oriented businesses and prosecute obscenity and child pornography cases.

Author
Mrs. LaRue recently co-authored a book, Protecting Your Child in an X-Rated World, released by Tyndale House in April 2002. St. John's Journal of Legal Commentary, University of Baltimore Law Forum, and Simon Greenleaf School of Law have published her writings. Her opinion-editorials have appeared in newspapers across the country including Los Angeles Daily Journal, San Francisco Daily Journal, The Atlanta Journal and Constitution, The Washington Times, The Cincinnati Enquirer, The Sacramento Bee, TheSun-Sentinel, The Daily Oklahoman, as well as Bloomberg, UPI, the Associated Press and Scripps-Howard.

Spokesperson
Mrs. LaRue has had extensive public speaking and debate experience in law schools, universities, and national media on various constitutional issues. She appears regularly in the national media, including appearances on NBC’s Today Show, the CBS Early Show, FOX News’ The O’Reilly Factor and Hannity and Colmes, ABC News, CNN, MSNBC’s Buchanan and Press, CNBC, and Court TV.
