House of Representatives to Pass Partial-Birth Abortion Ban 6/4/2003 “The ban has always had the support of the American people, now it will have the full force of law.” Washington D.C. – Sandy Rios, President of Concerned Women for America, prepared to celebrate passage of the Partial Birth Abortion Ban in the House of Representatives this morning.
“The Senate passed a real partial-birth abortion ban that will end a gruesome procedure that is harmful to women and we fully expect the House to do the same today,” said Rios, president of the nation’s largest public policy women’s organization. “Then the President can sign this historic piece of legislation into law and we will no longer permit this brutal form of infanticide within our borders.
“The ban has always had the support of the American people, now it will have the full force of law,” said Rios. “This issue energized the grassroots and won support across the political spectrum because the brutality was so obvious. What a triumph of the American spirit it has been to see moms and dads, activists and plainspoken parishioners remain committed vote after vote, even through the Clinton vetoes, to seeing this legislation become law.
“This is a victory of the human spirit – it is another small step toward ending man’s inhumanity to man.”
The U.S. House has approved the partial-birth abortion ban in four previous Congresses. The Senate has passed the ban twice before, and passed the ban again this year in March with strong bi-partisan support. The President called for this legislation to be passed in his State of the Union address earlier this year.
