Washington, D.C. — A state of California investigation into the death of Holly Patterson found that Planned Parenthood Golden Gate of Hayward failed to report Holly’s death to the state Department of Health. The report gives further evidence that RU-486 is a dangerous drug and its effects are not being reported. This supports Concerned Women for America’s petition to the FDA urging withdrawal of the dangerous drug.
Eighteen-year-old Holly Patterson died from a massive infection after taking the abortion drug RU-486. Valley Care Hospital, which attempted to treat Holly, was also cited for failing to report her death.
“This raises the serious question of how many other women have suffered serious complications after taking RU-486?” said Wendy Wright, senior policy director for Concerned Women for America (CWA). “Abortion supporters callously claimed that Holly’s death proved RU-486 is safe, compared to the number of women who allegedly have taken it. Yet this investigation reveals a serious flaw in that argument – we don’t know how many complications and deaths have gone unreported. More women and families may have suffered. If Planned Parenthood clinics and hospitals simply neglect to report RU-486-related deaths or complications, we’ll never know.”
“Holly’s parents have vigorously sought answers to her unnecessary and traumatic death,” said Wright. “Without their persistence and willingness to speak out, the cause of her death would have also been quietly ignored.”
“With this report, however, the FDA can no longer act as a disinterested party. The FDA unleashed this unsafe drug on unsuspecting women and continues to allow irresponsible agents to administer it in ways that make it even more dangerous. The FDA needs to protect women by rescinding its approval of RU-486.”
CWA, the American Association of Pro-Life Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and the Christian Medical Association have challenged the FDA approval of RU-486 and its subsequent misuse by abortionists. The Citizen Petition details the numerous violations committed by the FDA in its approval of RU-486, along with descriptions of how abortionists continue to violate even the insufficient requirements handed down by the FDA.
