California Law Makers Approve K-12 Pro-Homosexual School Bills 8/23/2006 CWA of California urges constituents to contact the governor and ask for vetoes. California's State Assembly on Monday passed a bill so sweeping that it would mandate "homosexual indoctrination" of schoolchildren as young as kindergarten, according to CWA's California leaders.
SB 1437, which requires editing textbooks and other materials to give only positive references to homosexuality, bisexuality, transsexuality and transvestitism, was approved on a nearly party-line vote of 47-31 (46 Democrats and one Republican for; 30 Republicans and one Democrat against) after a Republican-sponsored amendment to require parental permission failed 26-48. The bill was sponsored by lesbian activist state Sen. Sheila Kuehl (D-Santa Monica), a former actress who is the driving force behind the legislative homosexual agenda. Earlier this month, in the face of a promised veto by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R), Kuehl removed a portion of the bill that would have forced all California public schools to teach the "history and achievements" of homosexuals in America.
"The liberal majority in Sacramento has made its desires clear. Nothing short of homosexual indoctrination in our schools will please them," said Penny Harrington, CWA of California state director of legislation. "The battle lines have been drawn. Will we offer our children willingly or fight for them?" CWA was among several pro-family groups that rallied on Saturday in Los Angeles against the legislation.
Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez (D-Los Angeles), who floor-managed SB 1437, said in his floor statement that the bill was about the "safety" of "sexual minority kids." He said that the schools had an obligation to prohibit anything that, as the bill puts it, "reflects adversely" on homosexuality. "The way that you correct a wrong is by outlawing. 'Cause if you don't outlaw it, then people's biases tend to take over and dominate the perspective and the point of view," Nunez said.
CWA's Harrington noted that, "A member of our state legislature (Rep. Lloyd Levine [D-Van Nuys]) has thumbed his nose at traditional Biblical values by calling parents, pastors, church leaders, and common sense Californians a 'shrill and diminishing minority.'"
Meanwhile, former homosexual and now pro-family San Diego activist James Hartline revealed this week that a San Diego tax-funded charter school allowed elementary-age children to march in the recent San Diego Gay Pride Parade, a development that Hartline, who publishes a pro-family newsletter, found "appalling."
"These children were brought into the midst of a number of businesses promoting pornography and nearly nude men and women in graphic sexualized demonstrations," Hartline told WorldNetDaily.com.
"The children marched under the auspices of the San Diego Cooperative Charter School. Did the teachers miss the man who marched down the street giving out goodies while only wearing a g-string?" Hartline asked. "Did they overlook the car filled with men that advertised for RentBoy, a male escort service?"
As for the California school legislation, pro-family groups, including CWA of California, are urging constituents to contact Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to ask him to veto SB 1437 and several others that are either on his desk or likely to arrive there.
The other bills include:
SB 1441, sponsored by Sheila Kuehl (D-Santa Monica), which requires all businesses, schools and institutions that accept any state money to promote homosexuality, bisexuality and transsexuality, or face a funding cutoff. No religious exemption is included, so the state could threaten child care centers and Christian schools that accept CalWORKS childcare vouchers and Cal Grant college grants. As of Tuesday, the bill was in the Senate.
Many observers said all of the bills are likely to reach the governor's desk.
Seven Assembly members, all of them Republicans, spoke on the floor against SB 1437 before the vote. Six members, all Democrats, spoke in favor of the bill.
Rep. Jay La Suer (R-San Diego) called the bill "a camel's nose of the homosexual agenda going into our schools. It's about time we said 'enough is enough.' Don't push this down the throats of families who don't want it and children who don't understand it. This bill is basically a predatory bill that preys upon the innocence of children."
"Our children must not be sacrificed on the altar of political correctness," CWA's Harrington said. "It's time to get off the sidelines and into the game. Call the governor now and spread the word."
Randy Thomasson, president of the California pro-family group Campaign for Children and Families said, "We call upon Governor Schwarzenegger to keep his promise to veto SB 1437, which micromanages public schools by forcing them to promote a gaggle of sexual lifestyles that disturb parents and confuse kids."
Cindy Moles, CWA's California State Director, said, "We have reached the point in California where we must turn the tide or our children will suffer irreparable harm.
"We must stop the homosexual indoctrination of our children. If these bills become law, our children will be taught that homosexual, bisexual, and transgender behaviors are normal and acceptable. Parents should be storming the capitol demanding that the governor veto these bills. We must protect our children."
