CWA: Politicians Can’t Let M&Ms Melt in ‘06     9/6/2006

Washington, D.C. − Concerned Women for America’s (CWA’s) Senior Fellow of the Beverly LaHaye Institute, Dr. Janice Crouse, released today an analysis of the upcoming 2006 political elections, warning wise politicians to pay attention to married mothers—or M&Ms. The 2000 and 2004 elections showed that M&Ms were the key votes which resulted in the GOP’s favor, revealing their undeniable influence. Dr. Crouse predicts that M&Ms could be even more pivotal in the 2006 and 2008 elections.

“Politicians are neglecting the majority of CWA’s base: married mothers,” said Crouse. “In the 2000 elections, self-identified evangelicals represented a large portion of the undecided vote: 46% of all undecided voters at the end of the summer were Evangelicals. At that time looking only at women, nearly one-third, 28% of the undecided vote, were evangelical women (mostly married mothers). As the 2006 elections loom with portentous implications, a review of 2000 and 2004 could be very instructive. Such a review indicates that M&Ms could be this year’s key for electoral victories.”

“Throughout the presidential campaign of 2000, CWA tracked a group of women that we labeled ‘Bible Study Moms’. These women unwaveringly trended toward the conservative issues. In a close campaign, with an ever-vanishing block of undecided voters, this was an important group of women for campaigns to target. We are convinced that the same situation prevails for the 2006 campaign.”

“The M&M audience could determine the winners in key races, by voting or not, with their assessment of political stances on the social conservative issues—gay marriage, abortion, stem-cell research, abstinence education, etc. Wise politicians won’t let the M&M support melt away,” Crouse concluded.
