In All Things Great and Small     11/7/2006
By Eva Arlia, Secretary to the CWA Field Department

It is easy to get caught up in all of the big races and issues on ballots this election. But what we as Americans should also be aware of are the implications that 'smaller' ballot questions may have on the future.

Voters in Florida, for example, are weighing in on whether an amendment should be added to Florida's constitution to require a 60 percent vote for passage of any future constitutional amendments.

This is a specific threat to many pro-family causes, including potential for a marriage amendment and an abortion ban in the state of Florida.

It will mean a diminished voice of the people; Floridians should not accept a requirement greater than a legislative majority intended to stifle public opinion.
