Worlds Collide: Newdow and Rankin Debate “Under God” in the Pledge      4/25/2007



In this inaugural Concerned Women for America (CWA) debate, famed atheist Michael Newdow debates the Constitutionality of the phrase “under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance with Rev. John Rankin of the Theological Education Institute. Matt Barber, CWA’s Policy Director for Cultural Issues, moderates the debate. Dr. Michael Newdow
Dr. Newdow is a physician and an attorney. He is also an atheist minister ordained by the Universal Life Church. He is best known as the father who challenged the inclusion of the words "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance in 2002. He later challenged the constitutionality of prayers said at Presidential Innaugurations. More...




Rev. John Rankin
Rev. Rankin is President of the Hartford, Connecticut-based Theological Education Institute and the Mars Hill Society. Rev. Rankin grew up agnostic as a member of the Unitarian church but converted to Biblical faith in 1967. He holds Divinity degrees from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and Harvard Divinity School and is ordained through Vineyard Christian Fellowship. His website is: www.teinetwork.com More...
