In this inaugural Concerned Women for America (CWA) debate, famed atheist Michael Newdow debates the Constitutionality of the phrase “under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance with Rev. John Rankin of the Theological Education Institute. Matt Barber, CWA’s Policy Director for Cultural Issues, moderates the debate. Dr. Newdow is a physician and an attorney. He is also an atheist minister ordained by the Universal Life Church. He is best known as the father who challenged the inclusion of the words "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance in 2002.  Rev. John Rankin
Rev. Rankin is President of the Hartford, Connecticut-based Theological Education Institute and the Mars Hill Society. Rev. Rankin grew up agnostic as a member of the Unitarian church but converted to Biblical faith in 1967.
