Statement on the Passing of William F. Buckley, Jr.     2/27/2008

Washington, D.C. – Concerned Women for America (CWA) expresses its sense of profound loss on the death of William F. Buckley, Jr. Mr. Buckley’s life was devoted to promoting conservative values as the foundation for a free and democratic society. William Buckley’s ideas have helped to shape American thought and produced writing that influenced political leaders and civic-minded Americans over half a century of remarkable productivity. It is fitting that he died while at work. We send our condolences to his son, Christopher, and other family members.

Mrs. Beverly LaHaye, founder and chairman of Concerned Women for America, said, “Bill Buckley’s passing is a tremendous loss to America. He was a leader of principle and passion. His ideas shaped the conservative movement and the thinking of several generations of American leaders. The world is poorer for his loss. I send my condolences to his family and his colleagues.”

Wendy Wright, President of Concerned Women for America, stated, “William Buckley arrived on the American scene when needed most, and changed the course of our history through his intellectual influence. His impact will live on in the millions of people who have benefited from his life’s work.”

Dr. Janice Shaw Crouse, Director and Senior Fellow of Concerned Women for America’s Beverly LaHaye Institute, said, “In Mr. Buckley, Christian faith and towering intellect combined to produce some of the most erudite and affecting writing of his and any other generation. Nobody used the English language with greater precision and effectiveness than Bill Buckley. His influence will continue to shape young intellectuals and be a fount of wisdom for posterity.”
