Bound4Life International Pleads for the Unborn 4/25/2008 By Leslie Steddenbenz Pro-life prayer warriors will convene on the steps of the Supreme Court to fight for the lives of the unborn on April 26. Pro-life prayer warriors will convene on the steps of the Supreme Court to fight for the lives of the unborn on April 26. Bound4LIFE International will hold an event called, “The Mercy Seat,” in front of Supreme Court buildings in each state as well our nation’s capital. While some may see it as just one more protest, organizers are quick to point out that this is more of a silent prayer meeting than a protest, as the Mercy Seat event focuses on the power of prayer in the fight to protect innocent lives. During the event, participants wear strips of red tape across their mouths with the word “LIFE” written across it in order to identify with and represent the silent voices of the unborn.
Wendy Wright, President of Concerned Women for America, said, “Christians can provoke the conscience of a nation. By going to the seat of man’s judgment, silent sieges prod judges to act righteously toward the weakest and most defenseless in our society, the unborn. While some may claim that Christians should ignore the tragedy of abortion, Bound4Life goes straight to the Bible for direction on what tugs at God’s heart and seeks God’s intervention to embolden and enlighten our nation’s judges to act justly toward the innocent.”
Bound4LIFE International is a “grassroots prayer mobilization movement targeting the ending of abortion, the increase of adoptions and the reformation of government and society through spiritual awakening.”1 Since 2004, these advocates of the unborn have held a constant vigil in front of the Supreme Court in Washington, D.C., silently praying for our judicial system to reverse Roe v. Wade. It is a movement that is spreading across our nation, and they ask that pro-life supporters in every state gather together to pray in front of their state Supreme Court building.
Held during Passover, the “Mercy Seat” event focuses on the atrocities of the bloodshed of 50 million babies whose lives were ended through the “choice” of abortion. “In the twilight hours before God’s most severe judgment on Egypt, the blood of the lamb applied to the doorpost caused judgment to ‘pass over’ that home. Jesus is our Passover Lamb, and it is His blood that must be applied without delay to the doorposts of our national guilt.”
Matt Lockett, International Director of Bound4LIFE, says, “There are two great rallying points for the whole church — the blood of Christ and the blood of the innocent. 2008 could very well be a year that something extreme is required of America. If that’s true, then let it be that the Church moves en masse to plead the blood of Jesus which speaks better things than the blood of 50 million innocent children.”
While the “Mercy Seat” event is the pinnacle of the season, Bound4Life meets in front of our nation’s Supreme Court in Washington, D.C. year-round. These gatherings, called “Silent Sieges,” are based upon Ezekiel 22:30, which says, “I looked for a man among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it.” Participants are interceding on the behalf of the United States as they ask God to have mercy on the unborn and impact the consciences of all citizens.3
Bound4Life International’s success is evidenced by Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia’s statements last month as he addressed students at the University of Central Missouri, and again last week at Roger Williams University. “‘The reality is the Constitution doesn’t address the subject at all,’ Scalia said of abortion. ‘It is one of the many subjects not in the Constitution which is therefore left to democracy. If you want the right to an abortion, persuade your fellow citizens it’s a good idea and pass a law. If you feel the other way, repeal the law,’ he said.”4 We hope that Justice Scalia will lead the way in overturning Roe v. Wade and have been encouraged by his decision to speak about abortion and the Constitution in public.
