A Faithful Warrior     4/23/2008

James D. Gray, 74, of Charlotte Hall, Maryland, passed away at Virginia Beach (Virginia) General Hospital surrounded by his family and friends on April 21, 2008. At Concerned Women for America (CWA), we affectionately refer to the "like-minded men" who are members and/or leaders of CWA. Jim, husband of Maryland State Director Evalena Gray, was one of those "like-minded men." Jim was born on November 7, 1933. He was the son of the late Oscar and Fay Tyler Gray. Jim is also predeceased by his brother Don Gray and his three sisters. Jim was a veteran who served his country proudly as a member of the U.S. Navy. He was a deacon in the Hughesville Baptist Church, a past member of the Masons and a former Toastmaster.

Jim was also the Legislative Liaison for CWA of Maryland. He had served in that capacity since 2005. Jim became a member of CWA in the late 1990's. He lobbied with CWA's 535 Program and testified and lobbied at the federal and state levels. He was also an active member of the local Prayer/Action Chapter. Jim attended CWA's National Leadership Training each year in Washington, D.C. The last time he attended, he came with his dialysis equipment in tow. CWA has been blessed by the service that Jim rendered to our organization, but he has also been a blessing to the people of Maryland and this nation as he worked to uphold traditional family values at all levels of government. Jim will be greatly missed by all of us here at CWA.

Left behind to cherish Jim's memory is his wife Evalena W. Gray, his children: Tyler Gray and his wife Christine; Dale Gray and his wife Teresa; Allie Foster; Jamie Nicolato and her husband Joe; Rena Coffman and Jim. Also surviving Jim is his sister Ruby Hudkins and his grandchildren Shelby, Delores, Eric, Katie, Nick, Josie, Kara and Grace.

A celebration of Jim's life will be held Thursday, April 24, 2008, at Kempsville Baptist Church. Internment will follow the service in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. A memorial service will also be held in Maryland at the Hughesville Baptist Church on Sunday. Memorial donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation. Online condolences and Jim's guestbook may be signed at www.woodlawngroup.com

"That through death He might destroy him that had the power of death." - Hebrews 2:14

"Death is no longer banishment, it is a return from exile, a going home to the many mansions where the loved ones already dwell. … Then, O Child of God, what is there for thee to fear in death, seeing that through the death of thy Lord its curse and sting are destroyed? And now it is but a Jacob's ladder whose foot is in the dark grave, but its top reaches to glory everlasting." - C.H. Spurgeon
