Pro Homosexual Anti-Bullying Law Defeated     8/1/2008
CWA of North Carolina Leaders were active in defeating Pro Homosexual Anti-Bullying Law

HB 1366, a pro-homosexual anti-bullying bill, was stopped recently by concerned citizens of North Carolina on the last day of the short session of the North Carolina General Assembly. This bill included “gender, gender identity or expression … sexual orientation, or by association with a person who has or is perceived to have one or more of these characteristics” as a protected class equal to race or religion in North Carolina State Law regarding bullying

“Rick Glazier (D-45th District) my representative from Cumberland County, was the primary sponsor of this bill," said Donna Miller, a CWA-NC Prayer/Action Chapter Leader in the Fayetteville area. "In June, I visited Rep. Glazier in his office in Raleigh. At that time, he told me there was a good chance that the pro-homosexual bullying bill would pass."

When Donna returned home, she joined with Ana Maria Blevins (another Cumberland County CWA-NC Prayer/Action Chapter Leader), and they mounted a tremendous effort between numerous local groups to halt this bill. Rep. Glazier heard loudly and clearly from citizens in the 45th District. These ladies told him that all students should be treated equally in the fight against bullying and that special rights should not be given to students due to their sexual behaviors.

Miller continued, “We agree with Howard Lee, Chairman of the North Carolina School Board who said, “Bullying is bullying,” and that “there is no need for a proposed law on bullying to list reasons, including sexual orientation…”

There are additional sexual orientation and gender identity proposed laws making their way through the North Carolina Legislature. Miller states, “Rep. Glazier is a sponsor of these radical bills, and he will continue to hear from us. The next session begins in January, and we will be prepared to continue the fight against these laws for special rights that will lay the foundation for homosexual marriage in our state.”
