CWA Congratulates President-Elect Obama     11/4/2008

Washington, D.C. — Concerned Women for America (CWA) extends its congratulations to President-Elect Barack Obama.

CWA president Wendy Wright stated:

"President-elect Obama ran a remarkable campaign. His platform of change and hope gave a vision of the future which many found compelling. Of those who voted for him, liberals saw themselves in him, moderates heard themselves in him, and some conservatives hoped he believes like them. At the same time, a super-majority voted to protect marriage in Florida, as majorities in California and Arizona are expected to. This should give President-elect Obama direction as he considers the way forward. He has the opportunity now to reach out and work with those with whom he may disagree and to remember that many of the same Americans who voted for him also voted to protect marriage as a matter of basic fairness, honesty and justice to the rising generation of children who deserve both a mother and a father. The Scriptures teach in the writing of the prophet Micah that the Lord has shown us what is good and what the Lord requires of us - to do justly, to love mercy and to walk humbly with our God. CWA offers its congratulations to President-Elect Obama and commends him to our prayers, as indeed we do all our elected leaders."

Dr. Janice Shaw Crouse, Director and Senior Fellow of CWA's Beverly LaHaye Institute, said:

"This is an historic moment in American history. The election of a black American to the presidency is inspirational even to those who opposed his candidacy. This is a huge victory for Mr. Obama and we offer our sincere congratulations. The concession remarks of John McCain reflect the tradition of statesmanship that characterizes the democratic processes. Those of us who are concerned about the specifics of the transformation envisioned by the President-elect pray that he will, like so many of his predecessors, rise to the expectations of the office to be the President of all Americans — including those whose traditional Judeo-Christian values were resoundingly endorsed in this election season."
