California's highest court has upheld Proposition 8, the voter referendum upholding traditional marriage. At the same time, some 18,000 same-sex "marriages" performed between June and November 2008 have been allowed to maintain their standing. Mathew Staver, Founder of Liberty Counsel and Dean of the Liberty University School of Law, says this decision handed supporters of traditional marriage a huge victory which should encourage those fighting for traditional marriage across the nation.
