"[A]ny NORMAL man would be driven to get a gun and kill those who tried such evil cruelty against his loved ones" (emphasis in original). That's how homosexual blogger and Bellingham, Washington resident John Bisceglia thinks the democratic process should work.
Bisceglia's threat is directed at the supporters of Referendum 71, the effort to overturn Washington's "everything but marriage" law (SB 5688), which was passed in this year's legislative session and grants homosexual couples and couples in state-registered domestic partnerships all of the rights and benefits extended to married couples. Although the bill refrains from calling domestic partnerships "marriages," there is little doubt to its intentions, as it includes the phrase "marriage shall apply equally to state registered domestic partnerships" 180 times.
According to his post, Bisceglia believes in "using violence against the property of ALL of those who are working tirelessly to HURT my family; starting with churches and government property" (emphasis in original). That's way over the top, according to the organizers of Protect Marriage Washington (PMW), who filed a request for an emergency hearing with the Washington Public Disclosure Commission in order to protect the names and addresses of petition signers.
Attorney Stephen Pidgeon, who filed the request on behalf of PMW, believes that this threat and others received meet the standard required to seal the names of Referendum 71 signers. "According to [Washington state law] RCW 9A.46.020, a person is guilty of felony harassment if they threaten to kill a person without lawful authority. A reasonable person would take the statement about getting a gun and killing people who support R-71 as a true threat."
Maureen Richardson, State Director for Concerned Women for America of Washington, says, "I'm deeply concerned about threats of violence. But in the face of this, I'm reminded of British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, who said, 'You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life.' My prayer, and the prayer of all of us at CWA of Washington, is that Christians will continue to stand in the gap to protect the culture from God's righteous judgment, no matter what the enemy sends against us."
Bisceglia's threats have been forwarded to the FBI are documented at http://gaytaxprotest.blogspot.com/2009/08/gays-who-make-sense.html, but you won't be able to read them. In a classic case of "oops, did I say that out loud," Bisceglia's blog has been locked, and any threats contained therein are now only available to a select group of "invited readers." Classy.
