State Director's State-of-the-State 10/6/2009 Washington State Director By Maureen Richardson Activities of note in Washington State Greetings to everybody from CWA of Washington! When God called me to serve Him as director for my state, He didn’t tell me exactly what challenges would lie ahead of me, but, as always, He has fulfilled His promise to be with me through everything that He has asked me to do. God has been faithful to me as I have attempted to be faithful to Him and to answer His call on my life. When a pastor friend asked me one day at the beginning of my service, “How is your ministry going?” my response was, “What ministry?” He replied, “CWA, of course!” Since that time, the thought of CWA being my ministry has helped me persevere and stand in the gap for our God, occupying the land until our Lord Jesus Christ returns.
What a year! Once again, Washington State proved itself to be the LEFT COAST! Nutty, way too liberal and determined to join the east coast on its way to embrace every secular progressive idea out there, no matter how disastrous or ungodly, plus, along with California, moving toward bankruptcy in its effort to step into the church’s role of coming alongside widows, orphans and everybody else with any possible need or desire rather than limit its power and impact on citizens’ lives.
From January through April, CWA of Washington educated its members on several bills presented to the state legislature. I had the opportunity to testify before a House committee in opposition to a bill to expand marital rights to domestic partners. Other than having my heart about to pound right out of my chest, the testimony went well! At the end of May, we held a successful state conference with inspirational speakers who educated and encouraged us to continue to stand in the gap in Washington State. Those speakers included our own wonderful Wendy Wright, who received multiple acclamations for her presentations. We also had nationally known Christian activist Pastor Ken Hutcherson, State Senator Val Stevens who has served as CWA of Washington State Director and State Representative Matt Shea who made a name for himself as a freshman legislator, as well as two citizen activists who contributed greatly to our goal of educating and encouraging all attendees.
CWA of Washington has helped organize three TEA parties this year, but our attention is focused on passing Referendum 71 which will reject SB 5688 which grants all state rights, responsibilities and benefits to homosexual and unmarried senior couples, plus states that “Where necessary to implement this act, gender-specific terms such as husband and wife used in any statute, rule, or other law shall be construed to be gender neutral, and applicable to individuals in state registered domestic partnerships.” Praise God we collected the signatures needed to put Referendum 71 on the November ballot and that the courts have rejected our opponents' efforts to thwart our hard work. Please pray that the citizens of our state will have the opportunity to vote to reject the "everything but marriage" bill passed by the legislature which would be one more step toward full legal marriage for homosexuals in our state.
I want to thank the national CWA staff, especially the Field Department, for praying with and for us during this difficult year. We will continue to trust our Almighty God, standing in the battlefield for Him and following these words from Proverbs 16:3, “Commit to the LORD whatever you do and your plans will succeed.” Living that way every day is a wonderful way to live, isn’t it?
