State Director Janet Robey Encouraged by Lynchburg’s Constitution Day Tea Party      10/6/2009

Janet Robey, Concerned Women for America of Virginia’s State Director, attended the Constitution Day Tea Party held in Lynchburg at the City Stadium on Thursday, September 17.

A few hundred residents gathered to protest overspending, too much taxation and a lack of adherence to the Constitution.

Nine speakers addressed the audience. One speaker mentioned the Tea Party march on Washington, D.C. and said, “The ‘brush fires of Liberty’ that Samuel Adams talked about have been kindled, and they are becoming a bonfire because of people like you”.

City Councilman Scott Garrett attended the event, and the News and Advance newspaper quoted him. “The proof of the movement’s effectiveness will be in how many people take their ideals to the voting booths. In the final analysis, if you get 100% of the people to actually vote, then we win. The system wins. It’s when we get 16% of the turnout that silence is tacit approval.”

In response to the Tea Party, Mrs. Robey said, “I am encouraged to see people engaging and active; I certainly hope that the voter turnout for the Virginia elections will be proof that the tea parties are impacting our society.”
