Concerned Women for America of North Carolina prays at 40 Days for Life 2009
By Katherine Hearn, CWA Prayer/Action Chapter Leader
Concerned Women for America of North Carolina (CWA-NC) recently joined the Fall 40 Days for Life prayer vigil in Charlotte, North Carolina. On Monday, October 5, CWA prayer warriors stood and prayed for an end to abortion at Preferred Women's Health Center. Of the three abortion clinics in Charlotte, this location does the greatest number of abortion and does abortions up to about 20 weeks; it also has a call center adjacent for scheduling abortions in several other states.
During the first national 40 Days for Life prayer vigil in 2007 over 80 cities participated. Concerned Women for America featured an article, Can You Give America 40 Days For Life? written by Anna Higgins (9/7/2007) which highlighted the prayer and fasting components of the vigil. During that vigil, one of CWA’s state directors, Janne Myrdal, was very involved in the 40 Days for Life campaign in North Dakota. She was quoted as saying that the reason she was taking part in that campaign was that “we feel a tremendous call deep in our hearts [to participate]. This is a whole new level of intercession; we are finally getting the [idea] of targeted prayer, of calling upon God’s power.”
Two years later the results of responding to the call to pray and fast for an end to abortion are showing! This fall, 40 Days for Life has grown; it is now being observed in 212 cities in 45 states, 5 Canadian provinces, and Denmark. People in all of these places are joining together to host the largest and longest coordinated pro-life mobilization in history. To date, nationally 123 babies have been reported as “saves”; 13 of those have been recorded here in Charlotte.
As I held the “I Regret My Abortion” sign, I prayed that my testimony of God’s great mercy, love, and forgiveness in the face of my past abortion would encourage others and bring glory to Him. Often, in this fight of abortion, I believe it is the silent voice of those wounded by their past that have no idea what He desires to recall and restore in their lives! Proverbs 3:5-6, Isaiah 6: 6,8.
The 40 Days for Life campaign hopes to reduce abortion rates, highlight the sanctity of life as a crucial issue and develop new leaders involved in pro-life efforts. Please join us at Concerned Women for America here in North Carolina as we stand, pray, and fast for God’s power to bring an end to abortion in America and heal our land.
