Under Speaker Pelosi's latest health care bill (p.110), the public health insurance option is required to provide coverage for abortion. And, in a most bizarre way, the bill provides that nothing prevents them from funding abortions for which public funding is prohibited! Stifling competition not only affects prices, which the government of course can make up with taxes, but it also can affect the quality of care. The proposed bill expressly gives a new Health Choices Commissioner the right to look at an individual's tax return to determine what medical benefits or subsidies that person qualifies for. Dean Heller (R-NV) offered an amendment that would have required Members of Congress to get their health insurance through the proposed government-run plan.
