11-13-09 E-Alert     11/16/2009
By Maureen Richardson

Dear CWA of Washington Member or Friend,

I recently received this comment from a friend about the failure of Referendum 71:

“I am so sorry but the Lord uses our trials for His good and His outcome will be so far greater than our efforts. We will keep fighting for the passage on all righteous issue as we seek God's direction. He wants us to ‘occupy’ until Jesus comes, and there is no better way to ‘occupy’ than working for His good. Keep the faith.” I cannot say it any better!

Thank you for praying for the success of Referendum 71 to preserve marriage and protect children in Washington State. Unfortunately, the citizens of eight counties outweighed those of the rest of the state and chose to allow the disassembling of real marriage by approving SB 5688 by 52.95% to 47.05%. Given that we were told that we would lose by at least 20 points, our ability to convince 47.05% of the population to REJECT SB 5688 is a good sign, one upon which the Protect Marriage Washington coalition will continue to build in the continuing battle to preserve marriage as the foundation of civilized society. However, we now expect a full attack on marriage between one man and one woman in the legislature or the courts. Please continue to pray that man will not be able to redefine God’s establishment of marriage and family as the basis of a healthy, balanced culture.

Speaking of praying, will you step up to become a prayer partner for a state legislator? Our Encourage-A-Legislator (EAL) program has been active in the state for three years, and we still need at least fifty-eight more participants. This is an excellent family or homeschooling project, providing opportunities for discussion about legislators and their responsibility to represent us at the state level and the relationship between church and state. Please read the attached EAL form and consider joining this program so that all 147 legislators are covered in prayer. You may also confirm your continuation in EAL on the form. Simply e-mail or mail the form back to us! See EAL attachment.

As we approach the end of the year, I would like to remind you to renew your CWA membership at just $25/individual. Renewing at the state or national level makes you a member at both levels. If you renew through the state post office box (below) or online at http://wa.cwfa.org, your gift will directly benefit the state organization and help us cover expenses such as telephone, EAL and other state activities.

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with Thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7).

I pray for you and your family to be blessed this Thanksgiving Day!

In His Service,

Maureen Richardson, State Director
