The start of 2010 was marked by President Obama's appointment of a transgender man to a high Commerce Department advisory position. Matt Barber, Director of Cultural Affairs for Liberty Counsel Action, notes that Simpson was nominated for this position by the National Center for Transgender Equality and that Simpson is personally a transgender activist.
