CWA: Urge your representatives not to sign, and ‘sanction gender confusion’
WASHINGTON—As part of its growing embrace of the “transgender” movement — made up of men who choose to live as “women” and vice versa — a leading homosexual lobby group is now asking congressmen to promise not to “discriminate” based on “gender identity.”
The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) is joining with the Gender Political Advocacy Coalition (GenderPAC) to circulate a pledge asking U.S. House and Senate members not to “discriminate on the basis of gender identity, expression and sexual orientation in their offices,” according to the homosexual newspaper The Washington Blade.
HRC recently arranged a meeting between homosexual activists and Republican National Committee Chairman Mark Racicot—drawing strong condemnations from pro-family leaders. Robert Knight, director of the Culture and Family Institute of Concerned Women for America, joined several other representatives of major Christian groups in meeting with Racicot to tell him that if the GOP embraces homosexual activism, many religious and socially conservative Republicans will walk away from the party, thus jeopardizing President Bush’s reelection in 2004.
According to a GenderPAC press release, 70 members of Congress have pledged not to “discriminate” in their offices based on “gender identity,” and 336 have pledged not to discriminate based on “sexual orientation.” HRC has been distributing the “orientation” pledge since 1995, but this is the first year it will also add the cross-dressing language.
Knight: don’t sign that pledge
Knight urged Congressmen not to sign the pro-homosexual, gender-bending pledge.
“The goal of this project is to use the voluntary congressional pledges as a springboard to federal legislation mandating that private businesses accommodate both the homosexual and the gender confusion (transsexual) agendas,” Knight said, noting that the HRC-backed Employment Nondiscrimination Act (ENDA) still does not contain “transgender” language.
“Congress must see through this ploy. This is only a strategic step toward government cross-dressing mandates. Unless congressmen and senators are willing to say that Big Government should force a private day care center to model gender confusion to youth by hiring a ‘gay’/gender activist—or a restaurant owner can do nothing if its maitre d, John, transforms himself into ‘Jenny’—they must not sign this gay/transgender pledge,” Knight said.
He added that HRC’s growing embrace of transsexual activism shows “the folly of Republican leaders courting this group as a voting bloc.”
“Overturning historic gender norms by using the power of government is not a mainstream issue,” Knight said. “It may be a top priority of homosexual groups like the Human Rights Campaign, but it sure is not for the average American.”
Men in dresses hit Capitol Hill
GenderPAC, which the Bladedescribes as a “trans rights advocacy group,” is quickly moving from the fringe of the “gay” political world toward the center. On Monday, May 19, GenderPAC will hold its annual “Gender Lobby Day” on Capitol Hill—a bizarre spectacle even by liberal political standards, with broad-shouldered men clad in dresses and high heels, joined by masculinized women, visiting congressional offices.
As in the past, HRC will be training the GenderPAC lobbyists, according to the websites of both groups. HRC will also be participating in GenderPAC’s annual conference May 17-19. HRC now calls for “transgender equality” and supports pro-transgender nondiscrimination laws in states (but not as a federal law).
Corporate sponsors such as Kodak, American Airlines, Verizon and IBM now support GenderPAC just as they support homosexual activist groups.
And now, ‘gender-phobia’?
Learning from their “gay” activist predecessors, radical gender activists now attempt to demonize those who oppose their legal and cultural agenda by labeling them as haters and fearful bigots.
“We are proud to be partnering with HRC,” said GenderPAC Executive Director Riki Wilchins, a man who identifies as a woman and is the author of Read My Lips: Sexual Subversion and the End of Gender. “First, because homophobia comes from the same hateful place as genderphobia. Second, because we must ensure that those who would discriminate against us have no option to claim that they fired a gay employee because of their gender identity and expression.”
The “transgender” movement encompasses “gender nonconformity” in an ever-growing array of manifestations:
Cross-dressers, drag queens, and now “drag kings” (mostly lesbians who dress up as men for stage acts);
“Transgender” men and women who “live” as if they were the opposite sex but have not had genitalia-mutilating surgeries;
“Genderqueers” (according to one sympathetic website’s definition, it “means that a person's gender is not contained within the traditional gender binary”);
Full “male-to-female” or “female-to-male” transsexuals, men and woman who have had their bodies physically altered (critics say mutilated) through expensive surgeries and by taking opposite-sex hormones.
The latter category includes men who have their penis surgically cut and transformed into makeshift “female” genitalia, in addition to growing breasts using female hormones. For women, it includes those who have their healthy breasts surgically removed to make them flat-chested like the “men” they yearn to be. (The Human Rights Campaign and another homosexual group, PFLAG, Parents, Friends and Families of Lesbians and Gays, now annually sponsor the "True Spirit" conference in Washington, D.C., featuring doctors who perform "breast removal" operations on female "transmen," and a "show and tell" session in which women who have had the operation show off their man-like flat chests.)
In general, “transgenders” of all bents share the goal of breaking down the link—largely unquestioned for centuries—between biological sex and the “gender” (sex) with which one identifies. As activists, they demand that society comply with their self-identification. For example, a “transgender woman,” a man who dresses and “lives” daily as a “woman,” will ask or demand that others refer to him using the female pronoun. Many media are dutifully acquiescing to such demands, using words like “she” and “her” to refer to biological males who are part of the “transgender community.”
More ominously from the perspective of pro-family advocates, for years “transgender” activists and their homosexual allies have actively promoted the notion that certain youth are “transgendered” as well. The “T” in the “GLBTQ youth” equation touted by homosexual/gender activists stands for “transgender youth” (the rest is “gay, lesbian, bisexual and questioning”), and groups like GenderPAC now rally behind the “rights” of gender-bending youth, such as male students who wish to come to school in a dress.
GenderPAC is also courting gender-bending feminists, and includes Patricia Ireland, former NOW (National Organization for Women) president and newly appointed head of the YWCA (Young Women’s Christian Association), as a spokesman and member of its board of directors.
Barney Frank cites bathroom, shower problems
Like HRC, Massachusetts Rep. Barney Frank (D), a homosexual and prominent “gay” activist, has opposed inclusion of a “transgender” provision in the Employment Nondiscrimination Act (ENDA), which would mandate pro-homosexual hiring practices in businesses across the country (with some religious and other exemptions). According to a “gendernet” website, Frank commented:
The current ENDA would protect transgender individuals if they are discriminated against because they are gay or lesbian or perceived as being gay or lesbian, he said. But there are workplace situations—communal showers, for example—when the demands of the transgender community fly in the face of conventional norms and therefore would not pass in any Congress.
I've talked with transgender activists and what they want—and what we will be forced to defend—is for people with penises who identify as women to be able to shower with other women," said Frank, citing the activists' handbook which states that a person's declared gender is the one by which he or she should be recognized. "There are no votes for that. And if that is the price for this [ENDA] bill, it is wrong.
For his remarks, Frank has been labeled a “transphobe.” (We will address “transgender” arguments and counter-arguments on this point in future issues.) Meanwhile, the Human Rights Campaign is in the uncomfortable position of supporting full “transgender rights” at the statewide level— even lobbying for tax-funded transsexual “sex-change” operations for city workers in San Francisco—while it continues to oppose inclusion of “gender equity” language in ENDA for practical political reasons.
HRC staffers have sent out conflicting signals about amending ENDA to include “transgenders,” even as they who have been pursued relentlessly (and denounced for selling out) by aggressive “transgender” activists. The homosexual newspaper Washington Blade reported May 2:
[HRC Communications Director and Senior Strategist David] Smith said that HRC has not managed the criticism from transgender activists very well in the past and that some decisions were made on a “tactical basis.”
“Decisions were tactical matters in terms of viability, but that is in the past and is certainly not the case now,” said Smith. “Discussions are ongoing with transgender activists and members of Congress.”
ENDA: ‘Trans’ pressure growing
Despite Smith’s assurances, HRC still does not support a pro-“transgender” ENDA bill. But HRC leaders imply that one day they will do so. They say more “education” is necessary before such language will be palatable to Congress. More and more, the homosexual group is boasting about all the work it has done to advance the “transgender” cause. Another group, the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, says it will not back ENDA unless “transgender” language is included.
