CWA Stands By Justice Moore 8/19/2003 Washington, D.C. – As tomorrow’s deadline approaches for removal of the Ten Commandments statue from the Alabama State Supreme Court building, CWA President Sandy Rios today expressed wholehearted support for Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore who is defying the unlawful court order.
“This is a turning point in our nation’s history. Will all vestiges of God be removed from our buildings, our documents and our money? If the American Civil Liberties Union and Americans United for Separation of Church and State have their way, a godless America will be our future,” Rios said on her daily radio show Concerned Women Today (CWT). She called for Christians across the country to support Justice Roy Moore and his pledge to keep the Ten Commandments statue.
A U.S. District Court Judge ruled against Chief Justice Moore in November and the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals also ruled last month, saying displays on government property cannot promote a religion. The court gave tomorrow, August 20, 2003, as the final deadline for removal of the statue.
“The people of Alabama want God to be honored. A federal judge does not. The Constitution is supposed to protect us from the whims of men, but we have allowed judges to wield power they were never granted,” said Rios.
“Roy Moore has said he will comply completely with the Constitution, but he will not be bullied by the federal court. True patriots will not just admire this courageous stand from the side stage, but they will join Justice Moore in prayer and in rallies around the courthouse. They should help him financially and provide for him so that he may remain firm in his resolve against judicial tyranny.”
Last week, Moore told Rios on CWT, “It’s pure hypocrisy and it’s not the law. That’s tyranny —when the courts force their will upon you.”
Concerned Women Today is a nationally syndicated program airing in most of the top 25 U.S. markets on more than 70 stations daily. The show reaches over one million listeners per week and can be heard in the Washington, D.C., area on WAVA 105.1 FM at 2:30 p.m. EDT.
