CWA Calls for Support for the Institution of Marriage Amendment     2/6/2004
By Pamela Wong

White House and Congress must act to protect marriage.

Concerned Women for America (CWA) announced its support yesterday for the Institution of Marriage Amendment (IMA), which consists of new wording that offers the best constitutional remedy for stanching the flood of homosexual "marriage" and civil unions drenching our country.

Michael Farris, president of Patrick Henry College and founder of the Home School Legal Defense Fund, is promoting an amendment worded similarly to the recommendation of CWA's own chief counsel, Jan LaRue. The IMA says:

Marriage in the United States shall consist only of the union of a man and woman. Neither the United States nor any State shall recognize or grant to any unmarried person the legal rights or status of a spouse.

"I believe we finally have language for an amendment that's worthy of the effort that will be required," says Sandy Rios, president of CWA. "I believe we have an opportunity to influence the Congress and the White House for a strong amendment."

Your action is urgently requested! Call or write: 1) your U.S. representative; 2) your two U.S. senators, and the White House. Click here for information on how to contact them. Right now, the focus must be on Republican representatives and senators, and the White House, for they are the ones to decide on the amendment's final text.
