On July 21, 2007 four members of the San Diego, California Fire Department were ordered to participate in the city’s “gay” pride parade. This was after the four vigorously refused to “volunteer” for the task for various reasons. Along the parade route the firemen were subjected to a host of lewd comments and gestures. When the firemen refused to play along and instead avoided eye contact with those along the parade route, the lewd comments became vile and vicious. Brian Rooney, attorney and spokesman with the Thomas More Law Center discusses this case with Matt Barber, CWA’s Policy Director for Cultural Issues, and the fireman’s recourse against this blatant violation of their civil rights.
