An African-American Soldier Rises Through the Ranks

Maj. Gen. Jerry R. Curry (US Army retired) began his military career as a young enlisted man. Serving through Korea and Vietnam, Curry worked hard, was accepted into Officer Candidate School, and reached the rank of Major General. Curry's faith, leadership, positive attitude and hard work enabled him to rise above the obstacles set in place by racism in a newly-integrated military. He shares his story, also found in his book From Private to General - An African American Soldier Rises Through the Ranks, along with the lessons we can take from his experiences. He also shares with listeners a portrait of the thousands of unnamed heroes he honored this Memorial Day. Listen | Download
