California Supreme Court Strikes Religious Freedom for Doctors

The California Supreme Court ruled this week, based on the state's anti-discrimination laws and its earlier ruling creating same-sex "marriage," that physicians have no right to practice in accordance with their religious beliefs. The case involves two Christian doctors who, based on their religious beliefs, refused to perform fertility treatments on a lesbian couple. Instead, the physicians referred the lesbian couple to another practice that had no such constraint. While the couple was successfully treated and gave birth to a child as a result, the lesbian couple sued the Christian practice for discrimination. Matt Barber, Director of Cultural Affairs for the Liberty Counsel and Associate Dean with the Liberty University School of Law, says this is an act of judicial tyranny and that California pastors could be the next target.
