Radio's Arbitron Ratings System Challenged Over "Diversity"
![]() |
A new and more efficient way of monitoring the audience size for radio stations, Arbitron's Portable People Meter, is being challenged by some minority groups because of the resulting shift in recorded listenership. Seton Motley, Director of Communications for the Media Research Center, says this challenge is one of a growing number of back door attempts to muzzle conservative talk radio. He discusses this challenge, the status of the "Fairness" Doctrine, and the push for localism boards which all work toward that larger goal. The Media Research Center and Concerned Women for America are two of 66 organizations that are a part of the Free Speech Alliance, a group aimed at protecting the free speech rights of broadcasters.
