Maryland Pregnancy Centers Face Restrictive "Disclaimer" Mandates
![]() |
In Maryland, the Montgomery County Council is moving forward with legislation that will require the county's four pregnancy care centers tell patients that they do not provide medical advice, intend to establish a doctor-patient relationship, and that the patient should consult a "full service" health care provider about their pregnancy before deciding a course of action. Gail Tierney, Executive Director of the Rockville Pregnancy Center, says that this measure would essentially gag them, even though they are a licensed medical clinic staffed by physicians, nurses, and sonographers. She adds that this is a tactic is being implemented nationwide and that currently eight other states are facing similar efforts to gag and discredit pregnancy care centers.
