Senators Brownback and Kyl Urge Administration Support for Internet Freedom



Until last week, Senator Brownback was holding up the confirmations of several State Department appointees in protest of the Department's inaction in support of global Internet freedom. The State Department was misusing funds Congress appropriated for the funding of readily available software that bypasses the Internet censorship imposed on citizens by oppressive regimes. Such software has been instrumental in supporting freedom movements in nations like China, Iran, Cuba, and Syria.
