Tea Party Movement Commended for its Fidelity to the Constitution

A broad cross section of the Conservative Movement commends Tea Party activists for adherence to the Constitution and for promoting a renewed enthusiasm for limited government, the rule of law, and American sovereignty.

The excessive spending and expansion of the Federal Government by the Obama administration and its congressional allies gave rise early in 2009 to a new broad based citizen movement that mirrored the Boston Tea Party of 1777. Soon after, the spirit of smaller government and the resistance to the demands of politicians in Washington DC and state capitals spread across America to all 50 states. The grassroots activity of millions of Tea Party participants has reignited an interest in constitutional government, the rule of law, and America's founding principles.

The Tea Party Movement Represents a Cross Section of the American People:

• The Tea Party movement is comprised of Democrats, Republicans and Independents across America.
• The Tea Party movement identifies with the American People---many who see the system in Washington as rigged and unfair for average citizens with a disregard for Constitutional principles familiar to everyone.
• The Tea Party movement, as a genuine grassroots movement that reflects the concerns of mainstream Americans has the potential to be a great force for good.

We Salute the Tea Party Movement:

• The Tea Party movement holds faith in the nation's founding documents--the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.
• The principles upheld by members of the Tea Party movement are low taxes, economic opportunity, and limited government - all of which are consistent with the principles of the founding fathers.
• The adherence to constitutional governance unites economic conservatives, social conservatives, and national security conservatives.
• The Tea Party movement is still in its infancy and we look forward to its growth as it sweeps across the nation, renewing faith in individual liberty and limited government.

The Tea Party Movement and The Mount Vernon Statement:

Earlier this year, many Tea Party Movement leaders and conservative leaders found common ground at a meeting and ceremony at the Collingwood Library & Museum in Alexandria, VA-- part of the original Mount Vernon Estate owned by President George Washington. The Mount Vernon Statement, issued on February 17, 2010, restates the ideas of the American founding as articulated in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. It was signed by over 100 leaders-including Tea Party Movement leaders--representing tens of millions of conservative activists nationwide and re-enforced the principles of Constitutional Conservatism for the 21st Century.
