Convicted: Gosnell Found Guilty of Murder
The Gosnell trial jury found late-term abortionist Kermit Gosnell guilty of three counts of murder in the first degree for Baby A, Baby C, and Baby D and found him guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the death of Karnamaya Mongar, who died after a botched abortion. In addition, he was found guilty of 21 out of 24 felony counts for performing abortions after Pennsylvania's 24-week legal limit and 211 misdemeanor counts of violating the 24-hour waiting period which is part of Pennsylvania's informed consent law.
The pro-life community is applauding the finding of guilt.
Concerned Women for America CEO and President Penny Nance said: "Concerned Women for America (CWA) applauds today's decision. CWA has worked hard to draw attention to the Kermit Gosnell 'House of Horrors' trial and rejoices in the decision to bring this monster to justice. No sentence can bring back the lives lost at the hands of Kermit Gosnell and his employees, but this decision acknowledges the role he played and how this horror could have been prevented. It is unconscionable that some tattoo parlors, nail salons, and veterinary clinics have greater oversight and sanitary standards than today's abortion clinics, where women are being maimed and murdered, instead of being protected."
Lila Rose of Live Action said, "Even as we celebrate this verdict, we honor and mourn as well those among our nation's weakest children who did not receive 'their day in court' - and we must remember that Gosnell is not an outlier within the abortion industry," she said. "We cannot allow these 'guilty' verdicts, welcome as they are, to make us complacent when it comes to the continuing abuses happening even now in abortion facilities throughout our nation. We call upon Congress to investigate all those participating in or willing to participate in this kind of brutality toward vulnerable women and children, and end it."
Gosnell's attorney was not so happy and blamed the media, saying, "The media has been overwhelmingly against [Gosnell]." That is an extremely odd sentiment, considering most major news sources avoided the Gosnell trial like they would avoid the plague. Was that because the Gosnell trial pulled the curtain back on the legal abortion industry and revealed the truth of its vile, horrific, callous, and cruel nature?
Gosnell was found guilty of murdering babies who survived abortions by "snipping" their spinal cords with scissors. During the trial, the jury heard testimony about the jars he kept in his clinic filled with the severed feet of babies. They heard testimony about filthy conditions and saw first-hand the blood-stained and antiquated equipment from the clinic. It truly was a house of horrors.
Planned Parenthood of Southeastern Pennsylvania and the National Abortion Federation both admitted they knew about the Gosnell clinic's horrible conditions. Neither pro-abortion organization reported it to the authorities.
What did some of the leaders of the pro-abortion movement have to say in response to the Gosnell verdict? Let's take a look.
Vicki Saporta, President and CEO of the National Abortion Federation, said, "The important thing to remember is that Gosnell's practices are not representative of the quality abortion care available from the vast majority of abortion providers in this country."
Notice there is no mention of the murdered babies. By the way, "quality abortion care" always ends with dead babies.
Carol Tracy, Executive Director of the Women's Law Project in Philadelphia, said, "Gosnell represents what life was like before Roe v. Wade and he represents the future if any of those attempts to overturn Roe succeed."
In reality, Gosnell represents a legal abortion industry run amok. And further, if Roe is overturned, it will not mean a ban on abortion; it will mean each state gets to decide. Again notice there is no remorse for the murdered babies.
Eric Ferrero, Planned Parenthood Federation of America Vice President for Communication, said, "The jury has punished Kermit Gosnell for his appalling crimes. This verdict will ensure that no woman is victimized by Kermit Gosnell ever again.
"This case has made clear that we must have and enforce laws that protect access to safe and legal abortion, and we must reject misguided laws that would limit women's options and force them to seek treatment from criminals like Kermit Gosnell."
Notice there is not a hint of concern for the murdered babies; they were victimized by Gosnell when he "snipped" their necks and cut their spinal cords. It should also be noted no one forced the women to seek treatment from Gosnell; they were free to choose that clinic because no one in the Pennsylvania government inspected it and shut it down, but rather turned a blind eye and left him alone. And Planned Parenthood's affiliate in the area didn't report it either, even though they knew about it.
Ilyse G. Hogue, President, NARAL Pro-Choice America, said, "Justice was served to Kermit Gosnell today and he will pay the price for the atrocities he committed. We hope that the lessons of the trial do not fade with the verdict. Anti-choice politicians, and their unrelenting efforts to deny women access to safe and legal abortion care, will only drive more women to back-alley butchers like Kermit Gosnell."
NARAL cannot be serious with this statement. Kermit Gosnell was not a back-alley butcher; he was a main-street butcher, well-known by those in the abortion industry. It is "pro-choice" advocates who do not wish to have clinic regulations and oversight, and abortionists like Gosnell will take advantage of that to maim and to kill. Notice, also, that there is no mention of the murdered babies.
The trial of Kermit Gosnell revealed more than the horrors inside his abortion clinic. To pretend he is the only abortionist in the United States to maim women and kill infants born alive is na´ve. The abortion industry knows that when people see and hear the truth about abortion they will reject it. That is why abortion supporters are ignoring the babies with holes in the backs of their necks and, instead, focusing on keeping abortion "safe and legal." The murdered babies are proof that abortion will never be safe and should not be legal.
