CloseUp - Gina Ramey
By Gina Ramey
July/August 2001 Family Voice

How did you first hear about CWA?
My husband heard Beverly LaHaye Today on a radio station in Texas on a business trip. He and I had just finished a campaign to keep Comedy Central out of our basic cable service, and we wanted to get involved in issues in our community.

What made you decide to join?
With CWA, prayer comes first. I had known Beverly LaHaye’s name through her books and respected her. As I interacted with the CWA staff, I respected that they were so considerate, caring and highly professional. I felt I could learn to be a better activist with their help.

How did you become a prayer chapter leader?
After about a year as a member of CWA, the Lord laid it on my heart to start a prayer chapter. I made a presentation to the women in my church, sharing abortion statistics and information about the homosexual agenda and its pursuit of our children. After I had explained the problem, I gave what I see as a solution: to start a prayer chapter of women from our church. We now have a good core group of 10 women who meet once a month to pray. We also publish a newsletter, organize events such as the National Day of Prayer and voter registrations, and raise money for our local crisis pregnancy center.

How do you balance mothering two small children with these activities?
My husband is so supportive; if he wasn’t I wouldn’t be involved. And I have a very supportive group of ladies in my projects.

CWA doesn’t ask more of me than I can give, and CWA has stressed that the Lord and my family come first. That’s the way the Lord intended it. When I keep my priorities straight, the answers to prayer and action seem to come, and the Lord gives me time to do it all.

What are the rewards of leading a prayer chapter?
Our time of prayer is so rewarding. We know that God listens. I think that is the biggest reward of all.

What did CWA’s annual Leadership Conference teach you?
I learned to [persevere], because God is listening! Don’t depend on legislative victories, but depend on prayer.
