"The Ride of your Life"
By Jonathan Imbody
Winter 2002 Family Voice

When Jill Stanek first came forward to talk about live-birth abortions at Christ Hospital, CWA President Sandy Rios was a popular radio talk-show host in Chicago. She was first to interview Jill on the airwaves. Jill shunned the use of a pseudonym, even though the publicity would likely bring personal and professional censure.

As Jill continued to speak out, “she just blossomed,” Sandy observes. “When God uses us, we step into a new dimension. … He gives courage and fearlessness.”

Could God be calling you to take a public stand? Before entering the spotlight, consider the qualities He seeks in front-line warriors.

“You need to be really sold out to the God you serve,” Sandy explains. “You lose sight of yourself, and you know you’re part of a mission. It’s not your story—it’s His story.”

The key, Sandy stresses, is not talent or personality type: “You just want to be faithful.”

Though Jill’s faithfulness has cost her a job she loved, she keeps the consequences in perspective. “I don’t understand how people can be worried so much about what other people think but not about what God thinks,” she says.

Sandy notes, “What started out for Jill as a scary thing became one of the greatest adventures of her life. … Throw abandon to the wind and serve Him. You’ll get the ride of your life.”
