Hollywood’s Pundits Spout Empty Rhetoric

Hollywood’s Pundits Spout Empty Rhetoric
By: Janice Shaw Crouse, Ph.D. - 11/5/2012

When viewers sit in front of the television to watch yet another award show for the Hollywood elite, we’ve all wondered what it would be like to wear a $15,000 gown tailored specifically for us, be adorned in $100,000 worth of jewels and have hair and makeup artists work for hours to make us look as polished and airbrushed as the stars on the red carpet.

For some of the stars, the public adulation isn’t enough; they also want to be taken seriously, so they become political advocates for their favorite leftist cause or radical candidate. During the Obama Administration, the Hollywood stars have come out in droves to throw fundraising bashes, tape advertisements, and appear in campaign videos. Apparently, the Hollywood moguls and starlets think the public won’t know what’s really going on without constant narration from the West Coast. Let’s hope most voters understand that these actors are just enjoying the attention they get being pundits and spouting empty rhetoric.

One high-profile attempt at relevance is the infamous MoveOn ad where Kerry Washington, Scarlett Johansson, and Eva Longoria attack Mitt Romney and, once again, whine about him not caring about women. The #1 cause celebre for the Hollywood set this year is Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider that passes itself off to the public as a “health care provider.” The favorite Planned Parenthood argument from the starlets is that without federal funding Planned Parenthood would have to end cancer screenings; in other words, they could no longer do mammograms. Problem: Planned Parenthood doesn’t do mammograms, regardless of the continued claims in campaign speeches from the president and his surrogates.

The Hollywood set also claims that Romney will single-handedly overturn Roe v. Wade. Never mind that our government is not a dictatorship; we have three separate branches of government, and the legislative branch makes the laws. Misogynist Bill Maher (who has donated $1,000,000 to the Obama campaign) has repeatedly unleashed vulgar denigrations of women, but he joins in the meme about the GOP’s supposed “war on women.” Samuel L. Jackson came out with another internet ad telling people that Romney’s going to “go to war” against schools, the environment, unions, and fair pay. Oh, he’s against safety nets and then, like all well-spoken millionaires, he tells his viewers to “wake the (bleep) up.”

Many of the President’s bundlers also come from Hollywood. Who could forget his lavish $40,000-per-plate dinner at George Clooney’s? How about the events with Anna Wintour and Sarah Jessica Parker? Will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas produced the Obama music video titled, “Yes We Can.” Cher, Zach Braff, Eva Longoria, and Sarah Silverman have all publicly expressed their public policy ignorance on Twitter and elsewhere in support of President Obama.

The list could go on and on. Unfortunately, for the Hollywood one-percenters, the majority of Americans can actually read, write, and think for themselves. Unlike them, we live in the real world. We work hard and still don’t have enough to make ends meet. We see them enough on TV, movies, and on every ad the mall can fit on a wall. Why should I have to listen to their inarticulate political views – especially since their views are filled with lies and distortions? And to top it all, they rail against those with money – yet they are the ones with money!

I think the most aggravating nuisance is that these people want us to pay more taxes. Hey, there is absolutely nothing stopping these Hollywood elites from giving their entire paycheck to the IRS if they choose. After all, Mitt Romney donated his entire inheritance to charity. The loud-mouthed Hollywood campaigners for higher taxation are perfectly able to do the same. Higher taxes might not hurt those starring in movies or TV every week, but many of the rest of us are having a hard time affording gas in the tank, food on the table, or tickets for a family night movie next week.

These Democratic spokespeople rail against the wealthy and stand with the Occupiers. They demand higher taxes and claim to care about the middle class. Have they ever looked at the difference between their paychecks and those for middle-class America? The Hollywood types are entitled to free speech, but middle-America needs to understand that they are actors, and like the saying goes, “If you can fake sincerity, you can pretty much fake anything.”

We’d all be best served to just ignore them and vote on facts instead.
