Sex Trafficking — This week, the House passed two sex trafficking bills.  Concerned Women for America Legislative Action Committee (CWALAC) worked with House staffers to strengthen these bills.  We sent a letter to House Members of Congress to thank them for their efforts to end the modern-day slavery of sex trafficking.  We also encouraged the House to hold oversight hearings on this important issue as well.

National Defense Authorization — On Thursday, the House passed the 2015 National Defense Authorization.  Included in the Defense Authorization was an amendment offered by Rep. Doug Lamborn (R-Colorado).  This amendment, which passed unanimously, directs the Department of Defense and the Air Force to rewrite their existing regulations to ensure that verbal and written expressions of individual faith are protected.

Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act — This week, Rep. Diane Black (R-Tennessee) authored a letter to Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nevada) urging him to bring the House-passed  Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act bill up for a vote in the Senate.  CWALAC worked with Rep. Black to help get cosigners onto this letter.  It will be sent to Sen. Reid next week.  In addition, Shari Rendall, CWALAC House Director of Legislation, briefed about 20 high school students with Students for Life on the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act.  These students then lobbied their senators to urge them to ask Sen. Reid to bring this legislation up for a vote.

Every Child is a Blessing — Rep. Steve Palazzo introduced the “Every Child Is A Blessing Act” on Thursday.  This legislation will eliminate “wrongful birth” and “wrongful life” cases, ensuring that children are protected against discrimination and their precious lives never become synonyms for medical malpractice.  Rep. Palazzo will join CWALAC on an interview next week to discuss his bill.  Please ask your representative to cosponsor and support this bill.  To find your representative, click here.
