Pledge of Allegiance—Unconstitutional?
with Tom Jipping and Jan LaRue from CWA's Legal Department
Listen
A Sacramento atheist who objected to the Pledge of Allegiance got his victory yesterday in court. Michael Newdow, who brought the case to court, objected because his second-grade daughter was required to recite the pledge at her elementary school. “I´m an American citizen. I don´t like my rights infringed upon by my government," said Newdow. He went on to call the pledge a “religious idea that certain people don´t agree with.’ So, now what? Is the pledge, in its current form - with the words “Under God’ - unconstitutional? Join us for our discussion on today's edition of Concerned Women Today.
