Press Conference on Eve of Historic Vote

Listen

Employing the authority granted to Congress by the U.S. Constitution, H.R. 3313, the Marriage Protection Act limits jurisdiction of the federal courts over questions arising from the Defense of Marriage Act. The bill effectively provides that no federal court can force an unwilling state to recognize a marriage granted by another state to a same-sex couple.

H.R. 3313 passed the Judiciary Committee last week by a vote of 21-13. There are 48 cosponsors of the bill.
