Firefighter Donald Herbert Speaks After Nearly 10 Years (5:21)

In 1995, New York firefighter Donald Herbert was seriously injured when the roof of a burning building collapsed on him. Nine and a half years later, Herbert regained his ability to communicate surprising caregivers with a request to see his wife and family. As Wendy Wright, CWA’s Senior Policy Director, points out this news sheds new light on the treatment of the incapacitated.
