Christmas Gifts
By Ruth Baird Shaw

At Christmastime our lists are long
We plan with serious task
Good gifts for our children …
Gifts they ask!

“How much more,” said Jesus
“Shall God the Father give,
Good gifts to us, His Children.”
Gifts that live!

For persons that “have everything”
God does not recommend
Like we — “A jeweled bottletop”
Or yet — “A mink trimmed pin.”

God’s gifts cannot be measured
Like those we lay-away.
But neither are they smashed or torn
Before New Year’s Day.

The gifts of God are packaged
So that we
With eyes for wrappings only
Sometimes — never see.

God’s gifts of joy and gentleness,
Faith, goodness, from above
A personalized gift, engraved
With His incarnate love!

“If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your heavenly Father give good gifts to them that ask Him!” Matthew 7:11
