Winter Silence
By Ruth Baird Shaw

My whole world is a poem today
Words etched in frozen white
Written out in flakes of snow
And published last night.

I woke to read the beauty
In chiseled litanies.
On library wall … with signs displayed,
“No talking … Quiet please.”

God stopped me in my tracks … today,
Delayed my morning rush.
I whispered at the sight of such
A soundless winter hush.

I tiptoed to a window
That once had framed the sod.
And silently, I read the words,
“Be still and know that I am God.”

“But the fruits of the Spirit are love, joy peace, longsuffering, gentleness, faith …” Galations 5:22
