ACTION NEEDED: Twitter as an Advocacy Effort

ACTION NEEDED: Twitter as an Advocacy Effort
By: Alexandria Paolozzi - 3/10/2014

Conservatives have a message that resonates with the majority of Americans. But we are losing the battle in getting our message out. Why? Part of the reason is that our conservative principles aren’t being communicated through the proper channels to the correct audience. One answer for this is Twitter.

Twitter? Yes, Twitter. Social media is the place to get a message out in today’s culture. But it is not just about getting out the message, it’s also the prime place to interact in the discussion and engage in activism — this is where our presence is lacking — with Twitter, a message today is spread quicker than ever.

Progressives are experts at using Twitter in advocacy. Not only are they getting their message out there for those in the media (because yes, news anchors use Twitter and follow what’s being said on Twitter) but also, and I would say more importantly, to their elected officials.

We need your help! Concerned Women for America Legislative Action Committee will start to include action items on Twitter in our materials. We are asking that you engage through Twitter and tweet your opinions, linking to our resources so they know what you want them to do legislatively.

If you haven’t followed CWALAC on Twitter, click here. Once you’ve found us, click the “follow” button on the right hand side. Then find your elected officials (you can use the list below for help), and start following their activity. It’s a quick and easy way to engage in what they are doing here in D.C.

A word of warning: Tweeting is not something you do without the risk of blow back. Twitter has been likened to a back alley fistfight. But that’s exactly what we need. Let’s take this fight to the cyber streets; that’s the place to engage in the discussion in today’s culture.
