Fetal Pain Bill Introduced in the House      6/22/2004

Congressman Chris Smith, R-New Jersey, has introduced HR 4420, The Unborn Child Pain Awareness Act. The measure, which would inform women of the pain an unborn child feels during an abortion and give her the opportunity to provide that child with anesthesia, has 51 cosponsors. This press conference was held as closing arguments began in the New York court challenge to the Partial Birth Abortion Ban. This bill is the companion to Sen. Sam Brownback’s measure S 2466, introduced in the Senate earlier this month.

CWA's Vice President for Government Relations, Michael Schwartz, represented Concerned Women for America at this event. Click here to stream video.
