NEW!! Mothers' Day at the United Nations

Last week 6 thousand women from around the world attended the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women in New York City. Typically a bastion for radical, liberal policies that denigrate motherhood and families, commission delegates were surprised this year by the panel titled "Recognizing the Critical Role of Mothers in Society." As Dr. Janice Crouse, Senior Fellow and Director of the Beverly LaHaye Institute, notes that the event, sponsored by Iran, Nigeria, Saint Lucia, Syria, and Qatar, and the pro-family group Family Watch, received an overwhelmingly positive response to the theme of "Celebrate Motherhood." Controversial Professor Places Christian College in an Unflattering Light

Warren Throckmorton, Associate Professor at Grove City College, has again cast an unflattering light on the college which describes itself as "authentically Christian." In a recent paper co-authored with Regent University's Mark Yarhouse titled "Sexual Identity Therapy: Practice Guidelines for Sexual Identity Conflicts," Throckmorton supports the idea of therapists supporting a patient's "gay identity" as well as aiding patients in modifying their religious beliefs to accommodate their homosexuality. Peter LaBarbera, president of Americans for Truth, says that this is not the first time Throckmorton's comments have strayed beyond the theology one would expect from a Christian institution, and that it was time to hold Grove City College accountable for their continued embrace of a "gay' affirming professor. Congress can’t be allowed to emulate ‘Animal House’
As a mother of two, I didn’t want to look up the meaning of a new sexual term that, thanks to the antics of former Rep. Eric Massa (D-N.Y.), sent lots of people running to the Urban Dictionary. I decided to keep my innocence and leave new vocabulary to others.

But it should never have come this far anyway. It was reported earlier this week that Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-Calif.) office was notified in October of last year about Congressman Massa’s unprofessional and perhaps illegal behavior. Why didn’t she do anything about it then?

Groundbreaking Research in the Fight Against Pornography

The social costs of pornography, while hidden, are devastating both for society at large as well as the person viewing. The Witherspoon Institute has released a new study, The Social Costs of Pornography, that shows the dangers of widespread pornography use on public health and personal as well as familial wellbeing. It gathers together research from various disciplines showing that today's pornography is more damaging than ever before thanks to the Internet. Not only is pornography easily available, it is more realistic thanks to streaming images, and more hard-core than the pornography of previous generations. This study shows that for some users, that pornography is psychologically addictive, and has negative impacts on interpersonal relationships, sexual health and performance, and productivity. It also shows that even people not immediately connected to the consumers of pornography are nonetheless harmed.

Concerned Women for America Signs the Manhattan Declaration

Christians, when they have lived up to the highest ideals of their faith, have defended the weak and vulnerable and worked tirelessly to protect and strengthen vital institutions of civil society, beginning with the family. It was in this tradition that a group of prominent Christian clergy, ministry leaders, and scholars released the Manhattan Declaration on November 20, 2009 at a press conference in Washington, DC. The 4,700-word declaration speaks in defense of the sanctity of life, traditional marriage, and religious liberty. It issues a clarion call to Christians to adhere firmly to their convictions in these three areas. 3/11/2010

One Nation Under Radical Rulers

President Obama has been making good on his campaign promise of "change" but those changes and proposals for even more change have been far more radical than even many of his early supporters dared believe. Robert Knight, Senior Writer and Washington Correspondent for Coral Ridge Ministries, says that based on the principle that personnel is policy, even more radical changes are on the way. Just how radical? Knight's new book Radical Rulers looks at Obama's controversial appointees to high level government positions as well as the host of Czars he has appointed to key positions that did not require confirmation. In this interview Knight shares some of the data he has compiled on the left-wing radicals now running our government. Listen | Download

Talking to Doorposts

If talking to some young people leaves you feeling as if you had just been talking to a doorpost, the problem could be their limited vocabulary. A recent linguistics study showed that today's teens use only about 800 words in the course of normal conversation and the average vocabulary of today's teen is less than half that of a teen from the 1950's. As Dr. Janice Crouse, Senior Fellow and Director of the Beverly LaHaye Institute, notes that while the decline can be traced to overexposure of television and computer-speak, its impact is being felt in the discourse of a wide variety of subjects, including business, philosophy, religion, public policy, and nature. Red or Blue? It's Written All Over Your Face

A new study from the Psychology Department at Tufts University finds that the differences between Republicans and Democrats boil down to two traits, nurturing and safeguarding. The study also found that, based on those two qualities, participants could successfully sort strangers by political persuasion simply by looking at their snapshots. Dr. Janice Crouse, Senior Fellow and Director of the Beverly LaHaye Institute, says that the study's findings of a mommy-daddy political divide fits with our nation's modern political history and has interesting implications for the future. A Pro-Life and Pro-Taxpayer Win in Sycamore Township, Ohio

Upon review of their health insurance plan, the Board of Trustees for Sycamore Township in Hamilton County, Ohio, bravely decided to end coverage for elective abortions. That move is being cheered not only for its moral justice, but for the savings to taxpayers of $200,000 a year. Phil Burress, President of Citizens for Community Values headquartered in the Cincinnati region, says this victory can be attributed to active, pro-family citizens who put good leaders in office. He adds that this is victory can be mirrored in communities across the nation. Listen | Download

Lifting the Ban on Open Homosexuals in the Military

The issue of allowing homosexuals to serve openly in the military is a matter that is still under debate, yet military leaders are acting like it's a done deal, which has an enormous impact on the religious and free speech rights of our service members. The most glaring example occurred recently when Family Research Council President Tony Perkins was disinvited to a prayer luncheon at Andrews Air Force Base, simply because of his public stand on the issue, which was not even the topic he was invited to address. Matt Barber, Director of Cultural Affairs for the Liberty Counsel, says we should expect to see similar instances against service members and chaplains as homosexual politics melts into our military culture. Recapping the Oxford Union Debate

Dr. Janice Crouse, Senior Fellow and Director of the Beverly LaHaye Institute, has just returned from England where she participated in an Oxford Union debate on the legalization of prostitution. Between the subject matter and the debate rules which allow heckling and interruptions, she says it was a lively debate. Here she shares more about this prestigious debate and the reaction of the debaters and audience to the message that prostitution harms women. Listen | Download

Billboard Campaign Has Atlanta Talking

Eighty billboards placed throughout the urban areas around Atlanta, Georgia are causing quite a stir. The message is simple and direct, "Black children are an endangered species." That is due to the tragedy of abortion and abortion providers that target urban and minority communities. Ryan Bomberger, who with his wife founded The Radiance Foundation, developed the TooManyAborted campaign with the help of Georgia Right to Life to draw attention to the devastating impact abortion has had on the black community. The campaign is generating a lot of interest and will soon spread to other cities. Bomberger spoke with CWA Policy Analyst Martha Kleder about the campaign, his background which led him to speak out on this issue, and how you can help spread this message. Listen | Download
