The Defense of Marriage Act, an Act to Amend the North Carolina Constitution

The Defense of Marriage Act, an Act to Amend the North Carolina Constitution
By: Antje Curphey, Northeastern Distr. Coordinator - 3/18/2011

For the citizens of North Carolina to add an amendment to the North Carolina Constitution, both houses of the State Legislature have to first vote for this amendment to be placed on the ballot.

SB 106, an act to amend the North Carolina Constitution, has been introduced to the General Assembly of North Carolina by Senators James Forrester (R-District 41), Jerry W. Tillman (R-District 29), and Dan Soucek (R-District 45). “An act to amend the North Carolina Constitution to provide Marriage between a man and a woman is the only domestic legal union that shall be valid or recognized in this state.”

So far this act has 20 co-sponsors. SB 106 has been referred to the Committee on Rules and Operations of the Senate. You can follow the status of this act on the North Carolina General Assembly Web site:

Prayerfully contact your state senator and ask him to become a co-sponsor.

Let us pray that the citizens of North Carolina finally may have the opportunity to vote on this amendment in the election of September 2012.
